"Participation in athletics plays just as much of a role in character development as any classroom. The field is a classroom and dealing with successes, failures and what lies in between the two help shape the overall student."
-Jimmy Williams, EHS Coach
The E-100 Story
In 2010, a group of individuals who shared a common vision came together and created a fundraising entity centered on funding athletic related on-campus improvements at Episcopal High School. In the spring of 2011, their dream became a reality when the first project, the E-Court, was dedicated between the Lower School and the Phillips Gym. This all-weather court has transformed the space from strictly an overflow play area to a multi-use venue designed for enjoyment by all EHS students. Other benefits have included extensive use by the physical education classes, Middle School basketball teams needing additional practice space, relief from scheduling pressures on the gyms for team court time during basketball season, and also serves as an attractive transition into our gyms. To support this project, more than $65,000 was raised from 101 donors contributing a minimum of $500 each establishing them as Charter Members in E-100. The E-Court was dedicated in the spring of 2011, and a plaque has been erected on the Episcopal campus recognizing these donors.
As we began planning for this year, it became apparent that there were many more needs which could be supported through investments by E-100 members. This past spring, two families approached EHS and offered a challenge. If the E-100 members could raise $100,000, they would provide matching funds of $.50 for every dollar committed, thereby contributing an additional $50,000 toward the current E-100 projects. With more than 80% of EHS Middle and Upper School students participating in an EHS sport, work was soon underway to identify those projects which would benefit the greatest number of student athletes.
Specifically, the funds committed for 2011 will be used as follows:
- Inclement Weather Practice Pavilions - $48,000
- Athletic Video Production Suite - $43,500 (includes equipment and staffing)
- Scoreboards for Blue Field and Gold Field - $38,500
- Athletic Field Improvements and Enhancements - $15,000 (partial cost)
- Head of School Discretionary Fund for Athletics - $15,000
The total cost estimate for these projects is $160,000. With a commitment of $10,000 from Coke for the Scoreboard for the Gold Field, we have a set a goal of $150,000.
Our thanks to the following donors* who committed to the 2011-2012 E-100 Campaigns!
