Episcopal was named a 2004 Family Friendly Company for Working
Families by Baton Rouge Parents Magazine. Episcopal was one of
five companies honored in the 100+ Employees Category. Amy Shoemaker,
third grade teacher, nominated Episcopal for the award on behalf
of the parents using the faculty daycare.
Mrs. Shoemaker submitted the following letter last year nominating
Episcopal for the award:
As a third grade teacher and a new mom, it has been an easy
transition back to work this year. Last year Episcopal approved
a faculty daycare because we had so many expecting mothers. It
is a co-op, run by the teachers, and we are thrilled to report
that the center has experienced a positive reception by our faculty
and parents. We have five infants at the center and one full
time employee. Three volunteers come in each day to help with
the children. These volunteers are mostly Episcopal parents,
some alumni, and grandparents. Knowing that our children are
receiving quality childcare has allowed us to remain better focused
on our work, as well as considerably increasing our job satisfaction.
We are enjoying having our children close to us throughout the
day. The positive reaction from the Episcopal community has heightened
our enthusiasm for the center and its future. Next year we have
thirteen applications for new infants and toddlers. We would
like to extend our heartfelt gratitude and appreciation to Episcopal
and the board of trustees for providing us the opportunity for
an on-site daycare. We believe that the school’s cooperation
has made EHS a more family-friendly place.
