Episcopal High School’s journalism students won awards for
their work on the student newspaper and yearbook during the Louisiana
Scholastic Press Association’s annual convention on Oct.
6 at LSU.
Episcopal won first place in the Team In-Depth Reporting
category for the students’ work on a special edition of the
newspaper. The students receiving that award were: Emma Frost,
Robin Neely,
Jordan Lewis, Chad Berg, Susan Elkins, Courtney Craig, Richard
Whisnant, Diana Wolff, Amy Catalano, Lauren Gauthier, Warren Quirett,
Holt Kirkindoll and Coralie Brumen, all class of 2004.
Courtney,
Susan, Warren and Holt also earned second place in the Team In-Depth
Reporting category for a two-page report on last
year’s flu outbreak.
Additionally, the 2003 yearbook, edited
by Kaylee Hartung and Martha Claire Hollis, both class of 2003,
earned second place in the small
schools division.
Episcopal students also earned the following individual
awards for newspaper: first place, Reader’s Aids, Richard
Whisnant; first place, Editorial Page Design, Chad Berg; first
place, Center
Page Spread Design, Courtney Craig; first place, Graphics, Courtney
Craig; first place, Advance Story, Lauren Gauthier; first place,
Individual In-Depth Reporting, Susan Elkins; first place, Spot
News, Robin Neely; second place, Advance News Writing, Diana Wolff;
second place, Individual In-Depth Reporting, Courtney Craig; second
place, Features, Jordan Lewis; second place, Spot News, Jordan
Lewis; third place, Reader’s Aids, Susan Elkins; third place,
Individual In-Depth Reporting, Chad Berg; third place, Advance
News Writing, Susan Elkins.
The following students earned individual
awards for yearbook: first place, Feature Layout and Design,
Martha Claire Hollis and Kaylee
Hartung; and first place, Sports Photo, MacKenzie Smith.
Two on-the-spot
contests were held during the convention, and Episcopal students
earned awards in both. Seniors Jill Whitley
and Shannon
Kaple earned second place in the yearbook layout contest. Senior
Ashley Mick earned second place in the newswriting contest.
