Episcopal students won first place in the Calculus AB math bowl
at the Brother Martin math competition on Jan. 20.
Calculus team members were Irene Huang, Jacob Hobbs, Erin Kirchoff
and Kenny Sheldon. Hobbs also won first place in the Calculus
AB individual test.
Josh Zuckerman placed second in the vocabulary competition.
Earning third-place awards were Kevin Mitchell, Calculus AB;
Alfonso Croeze, Trigonometry; Madeline Wen, Geometry; and the
Advanced Math/Trigonometry math bowl team of Haley Johnson, Marshall
LaMoyne, Matthew Saltz and Collin McKey.
Placing fourth were Huang, Calculus AB, and the Geometry math
bowl team of Kalynn Chumney, Ahad Mussarat, Jordan Ashcroft and
Wen.
Earning honorable mentions were Kirchoff and Sheldon, Calculus
AB, and McKey, Trigonometry.
Episcopal students also won numerous awards in the Catholic
High School math tournament on Jan. 13.
In the large schools division, the following students placed
first: the Calculus team of Madeleine Patrick, Jane Slusher, Nichole
Anderson and Ben Kemp; the Comprehensive Math II team of Haley
Johnson, Alfonso Croeze, Naiha Mussarat and Jessica Chu; and Carl
Sabottke, Advanced Math/Trigonometry.
Placing second were Jacob Hobbs, Calculus, and the Calculus
team of Ali Zamin, Danielle Jones, Taylor Peak and Sarah Seger.
Irene Huang placed third and Seger placed fifth in Calculus.
Placing sixth were Johnson, Advanced Math/Trigonometry, and
Robyn Bowman, Algebra II.
Earning honorable mentions were Marchelle Jones, Laura Steitz
and Emily Lutz, Advanced Math/Trigonometry; and Slusher, Zamin,
Kirchoff and Peak, Calculus.
In math bowl competition against schools from all divisions,
the Calculus team of Huang, Hobbs, Kirchoff and Saamia Faruqui
earned second place.
