Another season is upon us – WINTER! Winter brings
us the hectic holiday season but also brings us the gift
of the New Year. It is the only time we can look back at
what we’ve done and look ahead with anticipation for
what is to come. Parents’ Guild surely can do that!
Many parents and students helped the Admissions Office open
our school “home” to prospective students and
their families in the fall Open House. We had a very successful
Greenery Sale under the direction of Therese DeMouy and
Leslie Arceneaux during October and November. In November
and early December, Cindy Henkleman organized a wonderfully
whimsical Holiday Book Fair that included the efforts of
student, parent and faculty volunteers. Our fall Grade Level
meetings covered many topics and answered many parent questions.
We continue to serve LOTS of Pizza in our Pizza Sales and
LOTS of cafeteria trays in the lunchroom. We have also been
silent partners with the Cornerstones program – enabling
our students to enrich their lives by touching those in
our community who need help.
Winter is also a time for reflection and inner growth in
preparation for the bloom of spring. We have a lot to prepare
for with Karnival right around the corner on Leap Day! Our
Winter Used Uniform Sale is upon us and the second semester
Grade Level meetings will be taking place in January and
February. One look at the upcoming calendar will let you
know that we are always thinking, planning and working ahead.
There is one meeting I hope you will try to attend –
the State of the School Meeting on February 19th at 6pm
in the VPAC. Kay Betts will give us a report on the present
status as well as update us on the future plans of our school.
Immediately following her presentation, there will be a
short Parents Guild meeting for all parents. I will be presenting
recommended bylaw changes that need to be voted upon prior
to our annual May meeting.
One of the perks of being a Parents’ Guild volunteer
is to meet a new parent and make a new friend. Can you imagine
how many new friends I’ve made over the past year
and I feel very blessed. Please join us in our many projects
and meet someone new. Your life (and our school community)
will be happier for it!
Here’s to a prosperous 2008 – we just keep
on growing!
Robin Kilpatrick, Parents’ Guild President 2007-2008
